Last month I was asked to I participate in the Marshalls fall fashion challenge where I was given a $100 gift card to shop for a look (or looks) inspired by fall’s top trends. The task was simple; choose a trend from these three: color, prints or ladylike with an edge. Of course I chose “ladylike with an edge”. I scoured the stores looking for shifts and dresses that would get me through New York Fashion Week without too much fuss.
I found two Anne Klien shifts, similar to those above and a two pairs of simple (edgy, shall we say) chroc pumps. I tried my best to stick with the beauty trends, even though I am a very simple and classic (or shall I say “whatever is most comfy”) kind of gal. The amazing thing about it was how many great finds there were at the store. I had to focus on my goal, and not get distracted….Joe jeans, cozy sweaters…oh my!!
So, with dresses and heels in hand, off to New York Fashion Week I went. I mixed up my wardrobe with the newest makeup and hair trends. Long, flowing hair and red lips. It was a major stretch for me, but I must say I felt very put together. For the lips, only one product would do; Make Up Forever Aqua Rouge in Dark Rasberry. It was the perfect deep red for those who are nervous to try out a berry lip. On the hair front, the ridiculously cool and kind Ted Gibson recommended that every woman have a 1′ curling iron and his Beautiful Hold hairspray on hand to achieve the best fall hair. I listened, and now can’t live without either. Another trend that I have taken home with me is the braid. Braids were everywhere! I must say that they can turn a blah ponytail into a stylish updo in no time flat. It may take some getting used to, but I simply scoured Pintrest, and found a mecca of amazing braid inspiration and how to’s.
