I am often asked what I carry around in my ridiculously large handbag.  You see, I carry a very big Marry Poppins type bag, filled with all my daily necessities and possible needs.  I feel naked without my bags and my things.  I have tried in the past to downsize, but it is just not happening!

Here is what is currently in my handbag:

ubykotex

  • Handbag by one of my favorite sites:64bags
  • Tocca hand cream:  Loving this rich, yet easily absorbed hand cream.  The fragrance is not overwhelming, and it keeps my hands buttery soft.
  • makeup kit with NARS, Orlane, ItCosmetics, Jouer and CoverGirl products for on the go touch ups.
  • My current favorite book: Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed
  • To do list/notepad: I still like to write things down and make daily lists. A must!
    Iphone and keysinmyhandbag
  • hair bands for my everyday ponytail needs.
  • U by Kotex: I adore that these are packaged beautifully, so no one needs to know I am carrying around my lady things.  They have the best protection, and perfect for on the go!

I wrote this review while participating in a content series through Crowdtap on behalf of U by Kotex, and received products to facilitate my post and compensation for my time to participate

Top Five Looks from New York Fashion Week

#nyfwtrendreport
by Sian Bitner Kearney:

Every February, women flock to the web to see what Fashion Week has deemed the “go to” trends for fashion, hair, and beauty. This year, the runways were ablaze with hot fashion, romantic hair, and gorgeous but edgy makeup. Here are our top five picks from the shows.

#1 - Bronze Shadow If you’re a minimalist when it comes to makeup but still like to make a statement, a gorgeous bronze eye is the way to go. At first glance, while the makeup is still very natural, a swipe of bronzy shadow or a metallic brown liner can enhance all eye colors and give you a smokey eye that’s perfect for spring and summer. One of our favorites for this look is BOBBI BROWN Tortoiseshell BRONZE Eye Palette - Limited Edition .

#2 - Messy French Braid While it may be difficult to even think about summer with the crazy, cold weather that’s been passing through, those blistering hot days are merely months away and there is no better way to beat the heat (and humidity) while still looking gorgeous than with a messy French braid. For this look, begin by prepping hair with a texturizing spray like Oribe Dry Texturing Hair Spray . Next, weave the French braid as you might usually, but leave the crown area and the braid itself a bit loose. Pull tendrils from the crown to frame your face and run a curling iron through the pieces to create a sexy, undone look.

#3 – Simple Waves It seems as though beachy, wavy hair will never go out of style and we are so very thankful for that! This year, waves will be even looser and messier than in past seasons. To create the look, first prep hair with a sea salt or wave spray like Josie Maran Bohemian Waves Argan Hair Mist . Next, use a medium or large barrel curling iron and wrap hair around the iron beginning about and inch or two from the scalp. Remember to leave ends unwrapped to create that, “just back from the beach” look.

#4 – Orange Lips Few things say summer like a pair of brightly colored lips and the go to color this season is orange. Whether you prefer a matte lipstick or a shiny gloss, stick with shades of tangerine or deep orange to flatter your complexion. For this look, we love Maybelline New York Color Sensational Vivids Lipcolor in Shocking Coral .

#5 – Top Knot Perfection Let’s face it, everyone loves a top knot. Whether you’re heading to the gym, out for a date night, or dressing it up for a black tie affair, the top knot just seems to somehow work for almost everyone. For this look, tease hair lightly, and then pull into a loose ponytail on top of your head. Pull through one more time, leaving a few inches out or wrapping the ends around the knot, then loosen the knot at the top, pulling a few strand to frame you face. To keep the knot in its place, spray with a light hold hairspray like Alterna’s Cavia Anti-Aging Working Hairspray.

Just because a product is filled with skin loving and natural ingredients does not mean you have to sacrifice color, longevity and quality. It is a very big misconception that natural makeup products can't be fashion forward and meet the demands of beauty aficionados.

Case in point: Burt's Bees newest lip color collection. These colors are rich, and the payoff is amazing.  I have been mixing and matching the products to get textures and looks.  I keep these products in my purse and in my professional makeup kit at all times. I love to layer the lip balms and lip shimmers under my lipsticks for a multi-layered look that is nourishing and keeps my lips and my clients lips super soft and kissable!.

If you want to find your perfect shade, than Burt's Bees has made it ridiculously simple.  Head on over to the Shade Finder and they will help you find your match! It takes all the guess work out of "what color will look good on me?".

Lip Shine:  For those of you who just want a hint of color and shine. These tubes feel wonderful over your preferred lipstick.
• Nourishes with Apricot Wax
• Delivers softening with Sunflower Seed Oil

Lip Gloss
: A natural way to get the high fashion look! This gloss is never sticky, and leaves a gorgeous, rich sheen.
• Enriches with nourishing oils
• Promotes healthy looking and beautiful lips

Lip Shimmers: My favorite of the bunch, these little shimmers pack a punch! They are amazing to layer underneath your favorite lip gloss, or lipstick for extra shimmer and color.
• Enriched with Sunflower, Fruit Oils, and Coconut Oil
• Invigorates with Peppermint flavor
• Nourishes and moisturizes lips with Shea Butter, Vitamin E and Beeswax

Lip Balm: This little balm is for those of you who just want some fantastic conditioning, and a hint of soft color.  Keep these in your purse for all day touch ups and moisture.
• Nourishes with Shea Butter and Botanical Waxes

It is a long standing joke that my boyfriend Mike can't stand the smell of "girly" perfume.  Anything too sweet, or floral makes his nose twitch, and he runs the other way.  Out went my Vanilla sugar eau de toilette.  *le sigh*

So, I have recently made it my mission to find a clean, and sexy fragrance that he would like.  I have come close, but nothing worked....until last week, when Mike leaned in, smiled, and said "you smell really nice".  YES!  Victory is mine.

And what glorious scent de jour do I have to thank for this? None other than philosophy loveswept. And, how could you not love the name! The scent is fresh, with a hint of amber, and a soft floral touch that isn't overwhelming.

fragrance notes:

  • fresh bergamot and citrus
  • soft florals of pink jasmine, lotus blossom and purple passion fruit bloom
  • warm musk and creamy amber

Philosophy states: "loveswept is a lively, romantic fragrance created to make a woman feel irresistibly swept away. this soft floral fragrance sparkles with energy and leaves you with a soft embrace of happiness and love. get swept off your feet again and again and feel inspired to live each day with passion"

I couldn't agree more....and if Mikey likes it, than you know it is perfection.

What does being loveswept mean to you?  For me, it is embodied in the picture above. Love that is filled with laughter, and being with the person who is your best friend, encourages you to be your best, and allows you to be completely yourself (goofball and all).

philosophy is also giving you the chance to try out the fragrance yourself. Simply post a picture that embodies what makes you feel loveswept!

Your Springtime makeup look with Walgreens Beauty

Springtimemakeup

As a makeup artist, I have had the pleasure of being able to experiment with all types of beauty products, from high end department store brands, to tried and true drugstore products.  I have always been baffled when people assume that drugstore beauty doesn't provide the same look as higher end product lines.  Ladies, this is simply not true!  To prove my point, I recently worked with Walgreens to create two looks using afew special products, and makeup tricks: L’Oreal Butterfly Mascara, L'Oreal Colour Riche Lip Stain, L'oreal Miracle Blur Eye Cream, and NIVEA - A Kiss of Care & Color Lip Care.

For the first look above, I wanted to keep the look clean and simple. Something that we all could do with little to no time! The main two products that make the look are deep, dark lashes by L'Oreal Butterfly mascara, and a soft peachy pink lip stain by L'oreal Colour Caresse Wet Stain in Pink Resistance. This pink is one of my absolute top picks for Spring.  And I have become obsessed with the staying power! Keep the rest of the face clean, and the eyeshadow simple by using a soft, shimmery beige.

springtimemakeuplooks

The next look is another easy to achieve evening look using just a few products. One of my favorite tricks for a quick evening look is to find the perfect red lip, and a dark voluminous mascara.  Once again, I relied on L'Oreal Butterfly mascara to do the trick!  Before starting your makeup application, I also highly suggest using a eyeshadow primer, and the L'Oreal Miracle Blur Eye Cream is as close to perfection as you can get.  I tried this out based on a recommendation from none other than the amazing (and I mean fantabulous) Billy B. Since he perfects the faces of every movie star imaginable, I take every tip he dishes out as gold!  This eye cream helps to brighten up the eye, blur wrinkles, and allow your makeup to last.  Flawless perfection.   Add a swipe of liquid eyeliner, and your eye look is Catwoman worthy.  The final step is, of course, the red lippy.  My pick was L'Oreal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stain in Endless Red.  It is the perfect cool red that makes me feel glamorous. And, because it is a stain you don't have to worry about the dreaded lipstick on the teeth horror show.

Nivea_KissOfColor_Group

*Extra Tip: When using a lip stain, always prep your lips with a lip balm to hydrate and protect.  My choice was Nivea- A kiss of care & color lip care. Not only does it give your lips a boost of moisture, but it leaves a touch of color, making it the perfect lip base.  I keep mine in purse, and have become addicted to Kiss of Sheer Berry.

How Can I Get My Eyebrows Lighter Without Dyeing Them?

Share on Twitter8 Share on Facebook0 Share on Pinterest0 Share on Google +11

Today, we're going to talk about how to get your eyebrows lighter without dyeing them. Actually, it's as easy as using a cream based eye shadow. That's it!

Use an eye shadow on top of your eyebrows to lightly give a lighter and softer colored look to your brows without having to dye them. with an eyebrow brush simply use the lighter eye shadow color and brush it towards the ear, along and on top of the eyebrow hairs. It's really that simple.

My favorite brand for eyebrow products, or for an amazing cream based eye shadow is Senna Cosmetics. I use it in my professional and personal kit, and couldn't recommend the brand more!
