Top 5 Best Blush Dupes

Share on Twitter2 Share on Facebook8 Share on Pinterest2 Share on Google +11

top5blushdupesWhile others may lust after lippies or fuss over foundations, my beauty obsession has got to be products for the cheeks: blushes, bronzers, creams, powders, highlighters and shimmers, I love them all. I think blush and shimmers have the ability to totally transform your look and bring your skin and features to life. The perfect shade of blush will bring out your best bits and hide your imperfections and, even if you don’t have a scrap of any other product on, it will bring your skin to life.

I’m the first to admit I get a little excited (maybe too excited…) when I find an amazing dupe for a high-end beauty product. If it’s a good dupe it’ll look uncannily similar to the original and have will have everyone asking, “OMG, is that Chanel?” I’ve compiled a list of the ultimate copycats so you can have gorgeously flushed and glowing cheeks for a fraction of the price (shh – don’t tell!):

1. NARS Deep Throat The Don of the blusher world, NARS Deep Throat is possibly the most loved blusher on the whole planet, ever. Deep Throat is a powder formula, peachy pink blush with a subtle gold shimmer and works wonders to lift pale complexions.

Dupe: e.l.f. Tickled Pink ELF always make brilliant dupes of high-end products and this is the best Deep Throat-alike budget buy I have found. Tickled Pink is on the pinker side of peach with less shimmer and a more matte finish.

2. MAC Full Fuschia – This blush is a blue-based, super pigmented, bright fuchsia that packs a serious punch. The color is as gorgeous swatched as it is in the pan and leaves a little iridescence on the cheeks.

Dupe: Smashbox Radiance – This lovely little number is a tiny bit lighter than Full Fuchsia and applies slightly sheerer. It also has less of an iridescent sheen than Full Fuchsia and is a subtler, more natural option.

3. Benefit Coralista – A silky, pigmented, popping peachy coral with flecks of gold and a slight frost that’s universally flattering. Build up in thin layers to get the optimum flushed look.

Dupe: Rimmel Pink Sorbet – This Rimmel dupe is a matte, pinker tone than its Benefit counterpart with a soft fuchsia color that’s soft, buttery and blendable – an amazing dupe.

4. Chanel Reflex – This Chanel number is a gorgeous baked peach blush with a marble-esque surface. With gold shot through the product it doubles up as a nice highlighter and gives a stunning glow to the face.

Dupe: ELF Candid Coral – Finely milled with a slightly less pigmented hue, Candid Coral is a light coral shade with a golden sheen (it’s less gold than Reflex) that gives Chanel a run for its money!

Trend Alert: Hair Trends to Follow for 2015

Share on Twitter2 Share on Facebook3 Share on Pinterest3 Share on Google +11

hairtrends2015We have the top three hair trends to help you get the best looks to pump up your gorgeous locks!top three hair trends

#1 – The Low Pony
Few styles are as sleek and elegant as the low pony tail but we love this look for two more reasons; it’s quick and easy! Whether you’re darting out the door for a 7:00 am meeting or making a quick transition from a day of errands to an evening with friends, the low pony is the easiest way to freshen up your look in about two minutes flat. Whether loose or tight, your pony should hang right around the nape of the neck. If you really want to spruce things up, use a decorative clip  or band to secure your pony tail or add a headband to the front of the hair.

#2 – Deep Side Part
Most stylists will agree that something as simple as where you part your hair can completely change your look without needing to do anything else, and that is certainly the case with the deep side part. While this look may take some getting used to, especially for those who have spent the past several years rocking the center part, trust us; it’s totally worth it! For an elegant look, try the deep side part with retro waves ala Veronica Lake. For some Rock n Roll flare, use a Texturing Hair Spray  and back comb to create fullness from mid-length down.

#3 – Rockn’ Waves
Think funky waves are just for the beach? Well think again! 2015 is all about those textured bed head waves but with a bit more volume than the ones of summer. This looks works well with both a deep side part and a center part, but the key word to remember is “wave”. Polished, pretty curls are not what you’re going for so keep those waves natural looking. Try a flatiron to create great waves if you have naturally straight hair, or try out our newest favorite The Beachwaver. For girls with a natural wave, scrunch in a good Texturing Hair Spray  and call it a day. The wilder the better, so don’t forget to pump up the volume on this look and certainly don’t forget the hairspray to lock it all in.

Food for Thought: Four Things You Should be Eating for Gorgeous Skin!

Share on Twitter0 Share on Facebook1 Share on Pinterest5 Share on Google +11

bestfoodsforyourskin

As women, we are often taught to fear food; it will make us fat, it will break us out, etc. but what if you could enjoy food and reap some major beauty benefits as well? If you’re starving for some good menu items as well as an amazing glow, stock up on these four items ASAP!

Pepper Me Please
Whether you prefer red, green, or yellow, bell peppers are a wonder food! They are jam packed with vitamin C and contain antioxidants that can actually increase collagen production, decreasing lines and wrinkles and increasing skin’s firmness. You can sneak your bell peppers in as snacks throughout the day, or stuff with some brown rice, chicken and low fat cheese, bake, and enjoy them as a meal.

Berry Nice!
Blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries aren’t just a great option for a sweet treat; they are also packed with vitamins and antioxidants that help to slow the aging process. Add them to smoothies for breakfast, to a salad for lunch or dinner, or freeze and enjoy as a low cal dessert. Either way, both your face and your taste buds will thank you!

Enjoy Your Seafood
Oily seafood like salmon, lobster, and mackerel are high in both zinc and essential fatty acids. Combined, these main dishes not only reduce wrinkles, they also work as an anti-inflammatory to ease puffiness and redness in the skin. Add in some greens and a hint of olive oil, and you’ve got yourself one beautiful meal.

Go Nuts for Almonds!
Rich in flavonoids, these tasty nuts not only build a healthier heart, they also contain vitamin E and antioxidants for the skin. Eating almonds regularly not only leads to softer more supple skin; it can also fight off damaging free radicals caused by pollution and even smoking. Grab a handful as a snack or add a few to your salad for extra flavor and beauty points.

So grab your fork and get to it ladies! With foods that dish out these kinds of beauty results, you may find yourself wanting a second helping.

Summer Beauty Trends for the Office

Share on Twitter9 Share on Facebook6 Share on Pinterest1 Share on Google +11
Summerbeautytrendsfortheoffice
Summer is officially upon us, and you’re ready to trade in that heavy face of winter for a more refreshed, sun-kissed, but still work-appropriate look. How should it be done? Here’s a few of our favorite runway trends from this season’s top designers.  There’s something for everyone, so choose accordingly. summerbeautytrendsforoffice2

Purple Eyeshadow {from the runway of Versace}
Try out some universally flattering shades for the office, like navy or eggplant.  A little pop of color will really enhance your eyes.

Rimmed Grey Eyeliner {from the runway of Sophie Theallet}
Temper your flair for dramatic, heavily rimmed raccoon eyes and choose a soft gray or brown over black for a fresh summer look.

Honey Hued Makeup {from the runway of Meadham Kirchhoff}
To add warmth to fair skin sans self-tanner, go for a creamy, honey-tone blush. Dab shimmering copper shadow on eyelids and rosy bronze gloss on lips for a total summery complexion.

Classic Black Liner {from the runway of Badgley Mischka}
Black liner over a bare eye is timeless. Thicken the line as you work your way toward the outer edge and finish with a mini tick. Keep remaining makeup minimal to ensure a clean, unfettered appearance.

Smokey Brown Eyeshadow {from the runway of Chanel}
Black smoky eyeshadow is likely too bold for the workplace. Choose an earthy brown instead for a winning look.

Bright Pink Lip Gloss {from the runway of Moschino Cheap & Chic}
A glossy pink lip is feminine and eye-catching and never too over-the-top for work.

Red Lipstick {from the runway of Jason Wu}
The classic color is completely workable, so long as you choose a tomato shade over a superdark Goth one and pair with neutral eyes and cheeks. Still shy about flaunting rouge lips at the office? Save them for the evening happy hour with coworkers.

7 Rules for Sexy Hair by Jet Rhys

Share on Twitter1 Share on Facebook2 Share on Pinterest0 Share on Google +11

7rulesforsexyhair

Celebrity hairstylist and one of my favorite women in the beauty industry Jet Rhys shares her 7 no fail tips to get sexy, gorgeous hair!

1.  “Don’t fight your natural texture” is my motto!  If you have curly hair, rub in some styling cream and feel up those curls to bring them out.  If your hair is straight, play up the smoothness by blow-drying just the top layer with a round brush

*Insider Tip:  This is a lot faster than a blowout

2. Get a style that’s not too styled!  One thing that makes you seem dated is a haircut that look’s like a “haircut”, with harsh lines and angles. Seamless, non-choppy layers are gorgeous!

*Insider Tip:  Ask your stylist to “Point Cut” the edges off your layers, this avoids any sharp lines.

3.  There’s a world of hair Products out there…experiment!  I talk to my curly haired clients, for example to cocktail products straightening balm with a texture cream, apply it to damp hair, then air-dry.  It’s a magic bullet when you find the right products to work with your hair not against it!

*Insider Tip:  When cocktailing products, layer the products one at a time into the palm of your hands, rub the product throughout the hair starting from the tips working up to the roots.

4. Beware of flat iron codependency!  The secret to sexy hair is hair should move, have bounce to it and swing. If you flat-iron your entire head it’ll look to on-purpose, or “wiggy”.

*Insider Tip:  Don’t try to have your hair stick straight “perfect”.  Let your hair have bounce!

5. Don’t go nuts with the curling iron either.  The look now is texture!  I love to take a big curling iron and do just the ends of client’s hair.  You’ll have loose, luxurious waves like Jennifer Lopez!

*Insider Tip:  The smaller the iron the curlier the ends will be, the bigger the iron the more sexier the wave will be. Make a fist, that’s how big your iron should be to get this look.

6. Attention ladies…remember your roots!  Women forget to use volumizing products where their hair starts, which is why so many walk around with flat tops.  Spritz a thickening spray right at the scalp, then blowdry your hair upside down!

*Insider Tip:  When blowdrying upside down massage your roots with your finger tips, this encourages the hair to expand at the roots. If you use a brush it will disperse the product throughout your hair resulting in no volume.

From the novice to the Pro: Practice makes perfect!

Share on Twitter7 Share on Facebook4 Share on Pinterest0 Share on Google +11

 We’ve all heard the old adage: “Practice makes perfect!” And as anyone who has tried to pick up a new sport, hobby or started a new line of work knows things take time and doing is part of being.  Make-up artistry is no different, and just as a professional baseball player goes to practice five days a week and works on their fast pitch and pop-ups the make-up artist or makeup lover needs to condition and practice their craft.

Get the Best Brow for Your Buck

Share on Twitter2 Share on Facebook1 Share on Pinterest0 Share on Google +11
brows

While the days of pencil thin browns are behind us, keeping brows bold but properly groomed still requires some maintenance. From tweezing to threading and waxing, we have the pros and the cons for each technique.

To Tweeze or Not to Tweeze…
Tweezing is perhaps the easiest DIY of the brow grooming techniques; however, it still comes with its share of pros and cons. The best thing about tweezing is if done correctly, it allows you to form the shape you’d like your brows to be versus leaving it up to the pros and possibly being left with a brow look that was lost in beauty translation. For best results, use a pencil or brow shadow to color in your brow shape the way you would like it to appear, and then finish the look by tweezing any access hairs. Be certain to go lightly and cautiously with the tweezers though, over plucking is a move that’s nearly impossible to correct and you will regret every time.
