My hair is my greatest enemy on most days. It’s frizzy randomly or it falls flat when I desperately want waves or a curl. I always envy celebrities since their hair seems perfect always. Luckily, I can get great hair without having a team of experts nearby.
Yes, you can use your hair to look younger. Add some bangs to cover up forehead wrinkles and even make your hair look fuller. Boost your locks and look more youthful by embracing layers. It adds movement and life. A few highlights takes the look even farther giving you that effortless celebrity elegance.
It’s Okay To Be Messy
Forget trying to make your hair perfect. Pay close attention to celebrities. A little frizz, poof and random waves are okay. In fact, brushing your hair and then using only your fingers to create a messy ponytail will give you the same look celebrities use on the red carpet.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
Every hair type needs moisture. Naturally dry hair, such as curly styles, sometimes need a little extra. Celebrity hair gets it shine from regular moisturizing treatments. Invest in a glaze or serum that contains natural oils such as almond, coconut and argan to seal broken strands, deeply moisturize and maintain healthy, shiny locks. Just remember, don’t over apply or you’ll end up a bit too shiny.
To keep that moisture in, celebrity stylists recommend always applying a heat protectant spray before any drying or heat styling. Otherwise, you lose all that vital moisture.
I’ll admit it; I’m absolutely obsessed with Kate Beckinsale’s hair. The color…the cut…the way it seems perfectly coiffed at all times of the day. Her hair is, at least in my opinion, the absolute combination of sassy and sexy, but how the heck does the average woman achieve it? That question may be easier to answer than you think. Follow these steps for Kate worthy locks of your own!
Obviously the first notable thing about Kate’s hair is the length. If you’re like me and are lacking about 5” in that department, extensions may be the answer to your prayers. If you fear long-term hair commitment, try clip in extensions. They can be purchased at almost any beauty supply store for about $75, and if the shade isn’t a perfect match, they can be dyed and highlighted to mirror your natural hair color. For more of a permanent fix, glue in extensions can be added to the hair by your stylist (for about $400+), making longer locks a full-time look you can flaunt.
Kate’s hair has varied over the years in its shade but usually settles somewhere between a medium reddish and medium golden brown. Lately, she has been sporting some gorgeous caramel colored, ombre’ highlights to add some warmth to the look. To avoid hair color disaster, visit your stylist for the perfect shade of brown based on your own natural color, and then request that he or she apply balayage highlights.
For full-on glam curls like Kate’s, start by parting hair down the middle. Next, you will need a large barrel, clipless curling iron. Section out your hair just above the ear and pull that top half up and secure with a clip. Starting with the bottom half, take 1” sections and wrap around the iron in the direction that is away from your face. Once the bottom half is completely curled, spray with hairspray to hold. Repeat the steps on the top half of your hair. Allow all curls to cool for 15 minutes, then bend forward and tousle with your fingers. Apply smoothing serum like Moroccan Oil to any frizzy areas and finish the look with another shot of hairspray. For a look that’s totally Kate, pair with a smoky eye and pink lips!
I don't know about you, but I have always envied the 90's tossled, sexy hair. Although, I think I could most definitely rock the big hair, giving myself a really good blow out with the hairdryer sometimes seems near to impossible.Celebrity hairstylist George Gonzalez, owner of George The Salon Chicago recently styled iconic beauty Cindy Crawford during her latest visit to the Windy City. And who better than Cindy Crawford to be an example of what a really great blow out looks like! "When it comes to hair, Chicago is known for keeping styles soft and natural. It's the 'girl next door' feel but sexier. A natural beauty like Cindy Crawford is a perfect example of this," says Gonzalez.
Below, George shares his tips for how he created his signature blowout on Cindy.
1. With your blow dryer set to a medium heat setting, take the excess moisture out of wet hair drying tresses until they are damp. Make sure to softly use your fingers during this process and point the dryer's nozzle down to seal each cuticle.
Tip: "The best way to avoid frizz is to blow dry your hair from the top down," reveals Gonzalez. "Direct the dryer towards the tips and always dry the roots about 70% first. Then, you can make sure to control the ends with your brush or even try using your hands to press the dried hair smooth."
2. Next, divide hair and clip into sections: top, sides and back leaving the nape area free to style first.
Tip: Create a product cocktail combining a leave in conditioner and a volumizing mousse.

How to recreate celebrity looks for the real world….and in less time.
Star-studded film The Great Gatsby hits theaters this weekend, and John Blaine, celebrity hairstylist and Creative Director for hair care line Obliphica Professional, dishes on his tips for creating an elegant 1920s inspired coif. Recently, John mastered these looks on his client, Dita Von Teese, internationally renowned Queen of Burlesque!
DITA’s GREAT GATSBY COIFFURE
1. “All beautiful styles start with healthy hair,” says John.
2. To get maximum shine and long lasting waves, prep your hair with a moisturizing, replenishing, and UV protecting shampoo and conditioner. John recommends (and Dita uses) Obliphica Professional’s Intensive Nourisging Shampoo and Hair Mask.
3. Mix two drops of Obliphica Professional’s Treatment Serum with your favorite styling cream and evenly distribute throughout damp locks. This will help soften your hair while adding extra shine and hold without stiffness. If you don’t have a favorite styling product, the Treatment Serum works great by itself.
3. Blow dry two-inch sections with a boar bristle round brush. Begin with under-most layers of the hair, curling the brush under the strands to create a voluminous bounce and inward curl at the ends.
