Friday Top 5- Best Face and Body Oils

Share on Twitter7 Share on Facebook9 Share on Pinterest0 Share on Google +11

This Friday I would love to talk about my skincare obsession. Oil. Yes, you heard me right, I said oil.  For the past few years I have been incorporating different essential oils into my skincare routine. It started with the DHC Olive Oil Serum and Cleansing Oil.  The combination made my acne clear up and softened my skin in a way that no moisturizer ever had.  It was gentle and effective. Sold!

Now, essential oils are apart of my daily routine. The products I picked this week are my current favorites (although this list is constantly evolving).

1) Patyka Absolute Face Oil: this oil is ridiculously rich, yet sinks into the skin immediately. Known as a “dry oil”, it is even suitable for use under makeup. This  skin-enhancing cocktail of 11 essential oils and plant oils bring life back into your skin. Dog rose, packed with stimulating omegas, helps restore and strengthen your skin as protective wheat germ and olive oil nourish deep down. Jojoba oil provides non-oily hydration and squalene soothes irritations and inflammation.

2) Rodin Olio Lusso: Although this oil is on the pricey side, it is well worth the price of purchase.  Packed with eleven essential oils derived from flowers and other botanicals, this is the ideal liquid moisturizer for anyone seeking a simple solution to hydrated skin and a luminous, light-reflecting complexion. Like magic, it effortlessly melts into complexions that are “normal,” oily, dry, or any combination thereof, without leaving any greasy residue.  This oil has transformed my skin on my worst days.

3) L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil: Not only does this shower gel smells amazing, but it lathers your skin in the most delicate oil.  I especially love to use this after I shave my legs as a finishing touch during my shower routine. It has a unique skin cleansing treatment that foams when in contact with water.  Even after washing off, the Shower Oil leaves a light veil on the skin for a smooth, satin-like feel, and the scent is a fresh almond that both you and your man will love!

4)Bobbi Brown Beach Body Oil:  Nothing makes me feel sexier than when I put on this body oil. Not only does it smell like a vacation at the beach, but I promise you that you will feel warm and sultry when you have this on your skin. This body oil gives skin a sexy sheen. Contains four essential oils (olive, sesame, avocado, and jojoba oils) and vitamins E and C to soften and nourish skin.

5) Bobbi Brown Extra Face Oil: Another favorite from Bobbi Brown, this oil just recently came into my beauty repertoire.  This oil is particularly rich and emollient, so it is perfect for winter. This provides a concentrated boost of intensive moisture to comfort very dry skin. The lightweight formula absorbs easily, softening and conditioning skin with an oil blend of sesame, sweet almond, olive and jojoba.

Tips for Choosing a Fitness Spa

Share on Twitter5 Share on Facebook8 Share on Pinterest0 Share on Google +11

Today’s post comes from Carleen at Beauty and Fashion Tech, a beauty blog with an eye for technology, and Just For Trendy Girls, which is an international style blog. Fitness spas present a hybrid of service been at both fitness centers and day spas. While each are in business for a specific clientele that can often overlap, it was not until recently that the two business types began combining their services to increase efficiency and maximize their reach within the marketplace. Now, fitness spas are cropping up in many areas. Here is how to decide if one is right for you. fitness center

When choosing a fitness spa membership, consider the following:

Hours Availability of the fitness center as well as spa services is a key component to look for when choosing a fitness spa. With the hectic schedules people keep, it is important to know if there will be access to the membership benefits when you need them. In many instances, some fitness spas are open from 4a to midnight or even 24/7, making themselves available to their members whenever they need it most. It is also important to note with some of these extended hours, some of the spa services may not be available. Do you want a massage at 6am? Be sure to find out if it is offered. Keeping this in mind will help in the decision making process.

Equipment and Services By definition, a fitness spa is a place offering the resources of a standard gym partnered with a number of different services one might find at a spa. In essence, one could come in for their daily workout regiment and then workout their sore muscles with a massage or a foot rub. So, you obviously want to be sure that the specific services that you want are offered. For example, if you like deep tissue massage after a strenuous workout, be sure to find out if that is regularly offered and that it is offered at the time that you will likely be there. Likewise, some spas may offer more in terms of baths and saunas. Also be sure to check out the gym equipment and make sure that everything that you want is offered. Do you like classes? Make sure that the location offers what you want.

Healthy Living: Part Two

Share on Twitter7 Share on Facebook2 Share on Pinterest0 Share on Google +11

For the past two weeks I have been focusing on the inner health portion of my journey.  I have been known to just go gangbusters with exercise in the past, and do every fad diet on the planet.  Loose weight in 30 days?? I want it! But now I am trying to lose weight and get healthy the right way.  Slowly. And trust me, it is not easy.  Seriously, not easy at all. And yet, it is paying off.

The first person that I was connected to at my new “healthy home studio” (this is what I endearingly call Dantian Studios now) was nutritionist Phil Gephart.  He went about assessing my body fat using the BioSignature Modulation technique. Sounds funky, and it is…but it was fascinating! With handheld devise he measured 12 various spots on my body these sites included the cheek, chin, pectoral region, triceps, belly button, quadriceps, hamstrings, knee and calf. The premise is that “Let’s say that after being tested, it’s discovered that there is an excessive amount of fat on the lower thighs (again, relative to the other major fat sites). This indicates that there is a problem with the estrogen levels.”

For Example:

  • If the problem area is the triceps, the issue is with the androgen levels.
  • If the problem area is the shoulder blades or hip, the problem is with your insulin levels.

After determining the cause of the fat, the next step is to make appropriate modifications in your diet and exercise prescription.

  • For the subscapular – shoulder blade- and suprailliac -hip-, controlling the blood sugar levels of the body with more frequent meals, reduced daily carbohydrate and low GI food choices is critical.
  • For lower abdominal fat, the key is reducing cortisol levels by restricting the consumption of caffeine and sugar.
  • For the glutes, it’s important to detoxify estrogen levels by consuming vegetables such as broccoli that have biochemicals that accomplish this important task.

Didn’t I tell you it was fascinating!!??

Next up, Phil schooled me on nutrition.  He suggested I stick to a diet that was free of wheat, dairy, and refined sugar.  Basically, everything I didn’t want to hear! But, I have been following this for two weeks and have seen my belly bloat decrease, and I can actually see my cheekbones again. Hallelujah.

He states: “Science has taught us that it is not fat that causes us to get fatter.

“I never want to look like I am wearing too much makeup, so this foundation evens out my skin, leaving it flawless and natural.” ~Katie Holmes

The much anticipated Bobbi Brown ad campaign image featuring Bobbi Brown Cosmetics celebrity spokesperson Katie Holmes, debuted today at counters. I must say that I think she is the perfect face for the brand.

Katie is wearing the NEW Long-Wear Even Finish Compact Foundation in Natural, which is said to represent Bobbi’s philosophy of effortless natural beauty.  Long-Wear Even Finish Compact Foundation is available in 20 shades.

“I’ve always been a fan of her makeup, because it’s so easy to apply. Her color palettes aren’t extreme, so when I first started wearing makeup it felt comfortable and I didn’t feel like I had too much on, which can happen. And then I met her, and she is just a lovely person – so generous. I think that it’s so exciting what she’s built with this company. She’s an incredible woman. So I’m thrilled on so many levels.”

Get The Look: Kiera Knightly or Marie Claire

Share on Twitter0 Share on Facebook0 Share on Pinterest0 Share on Google +11

I have always loved Kiera Knightly, and her old world beauty. I especially love her newest look, and was able to get the low down on how to recreate her hairstyle.

For this month’s Marie Claire cover, Keira Knightly was styled by Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Fashion & Celebrity Stylist Ben Skervin.

THE LOOK: A roughed up, simplistic bed head style with soft, natural looking elements. The face framing layers and fresh look had a rock ‘n’ roll edge that complemented her cool and modern style. Here’s how Ben suggests getting this look:

1.      First start out by prepping wet hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse for lightweight volume.
2.      Rough dry hair, using fingers to give texture and make hair appear less finished.
3.      Part hair on the side. Then take a small amount of Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Color Gloss Crème and scrunch into the ends of the hair, creating soft waves and a textured finish.
4.      Finish the look with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Extra Firm Hold Hairspray to hold the style in place.

Have you loved watching the glitz and glamour of awards shows this season as much as I have? While you’re glued to your tv, have you ever wondered how many products are needed to get your favorite stars red-carpet ready?  Don’t worry — P&G Beauty has done the research for you to bring to life the amount of beauty products used every red awards season.

Approximately 16,750 women will attend at least one of the five top award shows.  Which means there will be more than 100,000 lipstick applications, at least 328 sticks of deodorant used and more than 170 bottles of body wash lathered in order to get your favorite beauties ready for the show!

I will have my eyes glued to the TV tonight for the Grammy’s, and will be sure to let you know what beauty trends I saw, and loved.  Personally, I can’t wait to see Shirley Bassey and Adele on stage.  Enjoy!
