The 5 Looks of Ashley Simpson at #NYFW 2013

2 1 1 1

This post is one of my favorites, since it shows how many different looks you can achieve (ahhh, the power of makeup!).

Once again, Nick Barose worked his magic.  These five looks very in intensity, but are an amazing example of how alittle creativity and switching up your lipsticks, and application techniques can give you such a wide array of looks!

Which beauty look is your favorite?

LOOK 1: (PICTURE ABOVE) 90′s supermodel Chic

  • We went with strong arch dark brows with matte everything from matte brown smoky eyes ( Estee Lauder 5 Colours Eyeshadows in Bronze Dunes)
  • Matte nude lips with 90′s essentials Mac lip pencil in Spice, remember those? all the cool sexy people used to line their lips with it.

Look 2: Rockstar eyes with glued on jewels

  • ( you can’t really see here but in the hi-res pic you can see we glued rhinestones to her inner corners of eyes, )
  • Sephora Jumbo 12 Hrs Liner in Brown was used all around

” A dark smoky eyes can look too serious sometimes so by funking it up with rhinestones, it add a fun rock star elements to it”

LOOK 3: Orange lips with Bronze smoky eyes: “Orange is in interesting color for lips, it’s less expected than red and definitely more youthful and fun, a good way to look glam but quirky with out being too formal ” Pair it with shimmery coppery bronze smoky eyes. ( Products used:MAC Lipstick in Morange, and Chanel Duo Eyeshadows in 37 Sables)

Photo Op Makeup Tips: How to Look Good in Pictures

4 1 2 1

Today’s two posts come courtesy of a very amazing guest.  I am beyond thrilled that the incredible Nick Barose took time to share some of his makeup magic with me.

Nick glammed up Gretchen Mol for the Donna Karen show during New York Fashion Week, and shared his tips on how you can look ready for the camera at all times.  His tips are perfectly transferable for everyday, and assures a natural and elegant makeup look. Enjoy!

“A lot of times people think they need to do a lot more which is true in theory but not really, you can still look like yourself and not look too painted” It’s really about using more powder on T zones and a bit more foundation to look more polished popping up certain features a bit more so you’re not completely washed out on camera.”

SKIN:

  • Invest in a good primer because it’ll really make a difference, I love the Koh Gen Do Pink Make Up Colour Base one because it has pigment in it that fills in fine lines and pores so your skin looks smoother in an instant.
  • On Gretchen I used the pink one to match her pink tone skin, I learned about this product from a fellow make up artist Elaine Offers who is Julianne Moore’s make up artist.

FACE:

  • People think they need thicker foundation for the camera but they really don’t, if your skin is decent and doesn’t have a lot of pimples, or dark spots then why cover them?
  • Just use a sheer liquid foundation to even them out, Be sure to blend down the neck because in picture you’ll really see if you don’t.
  • Also I always tell people to match their foundation to their jawlines this way it blends in face and neck ( I suggest Estee Lauder DoubleWear Light Foundation)
  • People think they need brighter concealer under eyes which is too but if it’s too light then the flash will make it looks crazy, we all seen pictures of various stars with those white under eyes mishaps….I normally blend a bit of the foundation I’m using in to the concealer this way it all look related as opposed to this bright white stuff under eyes ( Try Cle De Peau The Concealer)
  • Always dust a sheer bronzing powder around perimeter of your face, it really helps shape them more with out you looking bronze “this is perfect especially when you’re showing forehead so it’s not just one big forehead in pictures like Hi!, here’s my Forehead!!!” (Use Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder)
  • Blotting powder on your T zone is your friend!, regular powder won;t cut it with the flash you need blotting powder, it has no colour so it just tone down shine (A favorite is Mac Blotting Powder)

New York Fashion Week Live Streaming

0 0 0 1

This week is finishing up for me, as I jump on a plane back to California tomorrow.  But, since I can no longer be at the shows, I can still watch them via Live Streaming from Glam.  I must be honest, sometimes watching the shows from the comfort of your computer or television is better than battling it out with a feisty fashionista for a seat.

I hope you enjoy the shows as much as I did!

Bobbi Brown for Holmes&Yang #NYFW 2013

2 0 2 1

Bobbi Brown is one of the makeup lines that I often recommend to my clients, because of it’s simplicity and ease of use.  I have never found a color, or palette that doesn’t compliment the person in my chair, or make them feel beautiful (without feeling overly made up).  For this week’s New York Fashion Week, Bobbi Brown worked with her new celebrity face, Katie Holmes for her Holmes & Yang Fall Fashion Show.

Hourglass Cosmetics at La Perla for New York Fashion Week 2013

La Perla Moani Lee working on model

I am so excited to share the  beauty looks created by makeup artist Moani Lee for Hourglass at the La Perla fall 2013 presentation. The collection, which featured lace, tulle and silk designs, embodies elegance, sensuality and romance. La Perla designer Giovanni Bianchi looked to Spain for inspiration, specifically the moody color palette of painter Francisco Goya, and the embellished livery of bullfighters.  “I wanted to capture the sensuality and the strength of the woman wearing this decadent lingerie,” says Lee, who focused on elegant brows, radiant skin and dramatic lips worthy of an Almodóvar heroine.

The looks below are stunning, and are easily transferable to everyday life. I can honestly say the Hourglass cosmetics is one of my favorite lines, and I will be recreating these looks on myself.

For La Perla’s Black Label collection, which referenced mysterious themes including erotic art and surrealism, Lee switched the focus from the lips to the eyes. “The second look is a fresh take on the classic smoky eye, featuring a blend of black and brown kohl liner,” she says. “There are no harsh lines, it’s a softer interpretation that showcases beautiful, almond-shaped eyes.” The nude color on lips is a preview of Hourglass Femme Nude Lip Stylo, a collection of sophisticated neutral lipsticks to be released in the fall.

Lee has a mixmaster approach to makeup: To imbue skin with a multi-dimensional luminescence, she combined three different shades of Hourglass foundation, concealer, and finishing powder. As for the scene-stealing scarlet lip, she blended two shades of Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick. “It was one part Icon and three parts Raven,” she says. “The mixture of blue red and orange red makes for an opulent and regal fall statement that even Goya himself might have appreciated.”

SKIN: Prep with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum to create a seamless canvas for makeup. Follow with Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup in three shades: Porcelain, Ivory and Honey. “I use the deepest shade to contour, the lightest shade to highlight and the matching shade for the rest of the skin,” says Lee. Repeat the process with Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer in three shades: Hidden, Fair and Tan. Finish up with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in three shades: Radiant (golden beige), Dim (neutral beige) and Luminous (champagne pearl). “Blending the three powders creates an exceptional glow. You can literally become your own lighting technician.”

EYES: Augment brows with Hourglass Arch Sculpting Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette. Next, line the eyes with Hourglass Film Noir Kohl Eye Pencil in Espresso, and apply the mauve shimmer shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Exhibition to the lids. “To create a watery effect, I like to dampen my brush with a little No. 28 Primer Serum,” says Lee. “Unlike using water, the shadow never really dries down.” Finish with a few coats of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.
