How to Freshen Up Your Face

Share on Twitter9 Share on Facebook3 Share on Pinterest0 Share on Google +11

Today I'm going to show you how to freshen up your face. We all get tired, and during the day with work and errands our makeup can sometimes get a little dry and a little cakey. The easiest way that I like to keep the makeup and the look of your face fresh throughout the day is to use a makeup spritzer. makeup spritzers usually contain a really fine amount of essential oils, antioxidants and water that help keep your face moisturized and also keeps the makeup from drying out or looking cakey. I simply keep a thermal spring water spray in my purse at all times. Every few hours throughout the day, I hold the can six inches away from my face and spray it lightly on my face, not to wet it, but to just moisten it enough to give a fresh glow and refresh your makeup. If you have oiler skin, look for a facial spray that has teakwood oil in it, which will help to keep your face refreshed and your oil at bay.

wintermakeuplooks

by Sian Bitner Kearney:

As the brightly colored leaves of fall slowly turn to brown, the winter season is creeping into view. You may be aware that winter calls for a new wardrobe but did you know that it’s also time to update your look? Not to fret. We have the top five beauty trends to keep you looking hot as the temperature drops this winter season!

#1 – Bold Brows
True, this trend has been seen in seasons before but there is no time like the present to rock a bold brow. If you’re lucky enough to be born with great brows, be certain to keep them shaped by getting them waxed or threaded regularly. Feeling a bit thin in that area? Grab yourself a prescription for Latisse. You should start seeing growth in about a month.

#2 – Jewel Toned Eyes
While you may be tempted to stick to your basic brown eyeshadow, now is the best time to add a little edge to your look. Shades of purple, green, gold, and blue are popping up everywhere this season, and we must admit… we love it! Pick your favorite hue (we suggest Urban Decay’s Vice Palette 2), and make your eyes the focal point of your look.

#3 – Mega Lashes
Nothing says I’m ready for a holiday party like big, beautiful lashes! Whether you choose to add a few fake lashes to your look or opt for a great mascara (we love Benefit’s They’re Real), the bigger the lash, the trendier the look.

#4 – Soft Cheeks
Sure, a long walk on a brisk winter morning may give you a temporary glow but what about the rest of your day? This season is all about tossing the bronzer to the side and bringing out the blush. Avoid a deep fuchsia or plum color and stick with softer shades of pink and peach with a little hint of sparkle (try NARS Super Orgasm for a flawless flush.)

Get the Smokey Eye

by Sian Bitner Kearney:

Whether you’re stepping up your makeup look for a special occasion or just looking for an extra pop of sex appeal for date night, we’ve got the 411 on how to create the perfect smokey eye in just eight quick and easy steps. Before we begin, here’s the recommended tools you’ll need, all from one of our favorite beauty companies, Urban Decay:

  • Urban Decay’s Shadow Primer Potion
  • Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in the shade, “Perversion”
  • Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow in three shades; “Sidecar”, “Snare”, and “Desperation”
  • Urban Decay’s Good Karma Shadow Brush, Good Karma Crease Brush, and Good Karma Blending Brush
  • Urban Decay’s Big Fatty Mascara Now that you’re fully armed with your beauty tools, here are the steps to perfect that smokey eye.

Step 1 Use the shadow primer to prime both eyelids. Apply a small amount to corners and just under lower lashline.

Step 2 Use the Glide-On Eye Pencil and sweep a medium line across the upper and lower lashlines slightly winging the pencil up and out at the corners. Smudge the liner slightly with a brush or cotton swab.

Step 3 Using the Good Karma Shadow Brush, sweep the color “Sidecar” across the entire lid.

Step 4 Using the Good Karma Crease Brush, use the color “Snare” and blend from the middle of your eyelids to the corners always blending upward and into the crease of your lid.

Step 5 Using the Good Karma Blending Brush, take the color “Desperation” and sweep into the creases and outer corners of the eye. Also sweep a small amount of the shade just under the lashline.

Step 6 For highlighting, once again use the Shadow brush to sweep the shade “Sidecar” across the brow bone and inner corners of the eye.

Step 7 Now take the blending brush, remove excess shadow first, and then use the brush to blend the three shades together, erasing any harsh or obvious lines.

Step 8 Finish the look with several coats of Big Fatty Mascara Pair this look with your favorite holiday party dress or give it rock n roll edge with a great pair of skinny jeans and black motorcycle boots.

Either way, your eyes will be commanding the attention in the room from the moment you walk in!

Get the Look: Cara Delevingne

Get the Look..

by Sian Bitner Kearney:

She has graced the pages of some of the top fashion magazines in the world and is Burberry’s leading lady, but whether you love Cara Delevingne for her personal style, her gorgeous blonde hair, or those unbelievably sexy brows, there’s no doubt that the look she sported at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival is one to copy. Yes we know, she broke the makeup artist cardinal rule; (either bold eyes OR bold lips, never both), but when you look this gorgeous, you can afford to be a rebel!

Skin:

  • Cara’s skin in the photo is not only picture perfect, it’s also beautifully dewy.
  • To copy this look, try Stila Illuminating Liquid Foundation.
  • Next, apply Stila Sheer Pressed Powder to the t-zone only, as you want to avoid the matte look.

Cheeks:

  • Cara’s cheeks have a barely there glow about them which is important when you’re rocking a bold lip and eye.
  • For this look, skip the blush completely and instead sweep a bit of bronzing powder across cheekbones and along the hairline.
  • We like Elizabeth Arden Medium Bronzing Powder.

Eyes/Brows:

  • It’s difficult to complete any Cara Delevingne look without emphasizing a strong brow. If you’re naturally blessed with full brows, you may be able to get away with just a touch of brow gel to keep them in place.
  • For the rest of us, grab some brow powder, like LORAC’s Take a Brow, and start filling in the gaps.
  • For the eyes, begin with a medium grey shadow like the shade, “S&M” from Urban Decay.Apply this color from the upper lashline to just above the crease of the eye.
  • Next, use a black shadow like the shade, “Blackout” from Urban Decay, and apply from the upper lashine to the crease of the eye, extending up and out in the corners.
  • Apply the same color to the lower lashline, from the middle of the eye into the corner.
  • Now you will need a good black kohl liner like Smashbox’s waterproof kohl liner in the shade, “Raven”.
  • Apply a thick line from corner to corner of the upper lashline and extend out and up as you did with the shadow.
  • Then apply a thinner line to the bottom lashline from mid eye to outer corner.
  • Follow up with another sweep of your black shadow, slightly smudging the liner on both the top and bottom lashlines.
  • Finish the eyes with several coats of thickening black mascara like Bobbie Brown’s Smokey Eye Mascara.

Lips:

  • Cara’s lips are a statement all by themselves but really only require a quick coat of gloss.
  • For this look, we like Buxom’s Full-Bodied Lipgloss in the shade, “Hot Mama”.
  • For added drama, pair this look with bright red nails and gorgeous locks.

Get Her Look: Megan Fox

by Sian Bitner Kearney:

Ok, let’s just lay the cards out; Megan Fox is without a doubt one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. With her raven hair, luminous skin, crystal clear blue eyes, and her perfect lips, most pale in comparison. The only negative thing I ever noticed about Fox was her overwhelming need to use more makeup than she actually needed. Thankfully in recent years, Megan has begun to use a lighter hand with the makeup brushes, and allowed more of her natural beauty to emerge. Here are the tools you need to create your own Megan Fox Red Carpet look:

RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS:

Face:
The skin is the best feature of this look. It’s hydrated, smooth, and glowing. To begin, be certain to use a moisturizer before applying foundation as well as a good primer to set the makeup. Next, use a foundation brush to apply an illuminating BB Cream like Diorskin Nude. If powder is required for your skin type, apply a light dusting to the t-zone only.

Cheeks:
Dust a small amount of light to medium pink blush to the apples of cheeks. We like bareMinerals Ready Blush in the shade, “Light Nude Pink”. Next apply a luminizer like Stila All Over Shimmer to the cheekbones, bridge of the nose, brow bone, and inner corners of the eyes.

Eyes:
For this look, eyeshadow will be your best friend. Choose a medium taupe shade like Bobbi Brown’s eyeshadow in the shade, “Warm Taupe”. Apply the shadow to the crease of the eyes, extending slightly at the corners. Use the same shadow to smudge under the bottom lash line. Next, use a nude colored eyeliner like NYX Wonder Pencil to line the bottom waterline. Finish with several coats of black lengthening mascara to top lashes and a light coat on the bottom lashes. Maybelline’s new Big Eyes mascara is perfect for this look since it’s equipped with a regular sized brush for top lashes and a tiny brush for bottom lashes.

Eyebrows:
Megan Fox’s eyebrows in this look and every other are perfectly groomed with an amazing arch. See a professional for your best brow shape, and keep your brows looking amazing by using a brow powder like the eyebrow kit from E.L.F to fill in bare spots and create depth.

Lips:
The lips in this look are light and glossy. Avoid a lip pencil or heavy matte lipstick. Instead use a pale pink gloss to reflect light and draw focus to the lips. Once again, Bobbi Brown takes the cake with her lipgloss in the shade, “Petal”.
Pair this look with retro waves and a deep side part and you have a glammed up look that will command the attention of everyone in the room.

Friday Top 5: ComicCon Celebrity Makeup Secrets

Share on Twitter8 Share on Facebook9 Share on Pinterest0 Share on Google +11
The Perfect Touch Up Kit

Last week I had the pleasure of working the Warner Brothers VIP tent for ComicCon 2013.  I was on hand to do makeup touch ups for the stars before they went in for their photo shoots.  Most of the time we had less than 5 min to get them prepped and ready! The main issue for many of them was the extreme heat, and makeup meltdown.  That is why I relied on the 5 products below to make their makeup look natural, and ensure that it stayed on all day!

1) Oralne Highlighter: This product is the perfect peach highlighter that can be applied directly over your existing makeup. I used this to perk up tired eyes, and give their concealer a new pop! This is eight hours of sleep in a little pen.

2) Make Up For Ever HD Concealer: When they needed more coverage, I mixed two different HD concealers (based on their skincolor). The key is to mix a lighter pink or salmon color with a concealer that matches their skintone.

3) Face Atelier Lip Gloss: I relied on three colors; Peach, Dianthus, and Shiraz. Mix, match, and play! These colors got the most "oohs and ahhs" from every celebrity I put them on.

4) Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes in Taupe: This color looked amazing as a touch up placed in the center of the eyelid.  It gave new life to their existing eyeshadows that were fading or smearing due to the heat. The soft shimmer looks amazing on every skintone and eyecolor, and is the perfect no fail color.

5) Urban Decay Mushroom 24 Hour Pencil:  If I had more time, and needed to do a smoker eye look, I grabbed for this pencil.  The shimmery grey-taupe is a sexy and subtle color that makes a great smokey eye alternative for the daytime.  And it is waterproof, so no worries about smudging!
